The Original
Social Friends Club, founded 1992
A long, long time ago, in a galaxy
far, far away.....
Social Friends was formed in May 1992 by four
friends :-
Nigel
Mannheim (Chairman)
David
Scott (Editor)
Trevor
Gent (Prospective Members)
Sylvia
Harley (Treasurer)
These friends wanted to provide a local
non-profit making Social Club that did not involve traveling too far and did not cost the Earth to
join. Following several meeting between January 1992 and May 1992 it was decided to form
the Club Social Friends.
During the first year the club went from having no members to over 100 and since then
has settled at around 130 - 150 members, with usually about another
20 - 40 prospective
members at any one time.
When the club first started we used to
meet at the Moat House in Boune End. This is now known as the Watermill Hotel
and is shown in the picture below:-
Once a year in May (when the club started) we hold our AGM when any of our members can
stand to be on the committee and make a contribution to running the club. In addition we
have our own constitution which has been created over the years from input from our
members and committee members.
